Dubai, November 5: India all-rounder Deepti Sharma has been shortlisted for the ICC Player of the Month award for October, alongside Bangladesh’s Sobhana Mostary and Australia’s Annabel Sutherland. South Africa’s Marco Jansen, Pakistan’s Arafat Minhas and West Indies captain Shai Hope are the three nominees for the men’s award.
Deepti has won the women’s award once before. Her nomination this time comes from India’s home series against Zimbabwe.
Deepti’s month against Zimbabwe
Deepti batted only once in the three-match ODI series, part of the ICC Women’s Championship, and made 106 not out. She also took five wickets at an economy rate of 3.42 as India won the series 3-0.
In the three T20Is played before the ODIs she again had just one innings, scoring 49 off 37 balls, and picked up two wickets with her off-spin.
The other women’s nominees
Sobhana scored 118 off 134 balls against Australia in the second ODI in Brisbane, the highest score by a Bangladesh woman batter against Australia. She finished the series with 129 runs at a strike rate of 73.71.
Sutherland scored 99 runs at a strike rate of 132.00 and took six wickets at an economy rate of 4.12 as Australia beat Bangladesh 3-0 in the ODIs. She took four for 30 in the first match and made 74 not out in the third. In three T20Is against New Zealand she scored 19 runs and took one wicket.
Hope’s hundreds against India
Hope made three unbeaten centuries in October, and all of them came against India. He scored 162 not out to win the last ODI in New Chandigarh, then made 261 runs at a strike rate of 190.51 in the five-match T20I series, with 102 not out in both the second match in Ranchi and the fourth in Hyderabad.
Jansen scored 198 runs and took 13 wickets with his left-arm pace. His 85 and figures of five for 33 and one for 34 in the second Test against Australia took him to the top of both the Test bowling and all-rounder rankings. He was the first South African to lead the bowling list since Kagiso Rabada in 2024, and the first from his country to top the all-rounders since Vernon Philander in August 2014. Australia’s Mitchell Starc has since taken back the No. 1 Test bowling spot.
Arafat, a 21-year-old left-arm spinning all-rounder, was Player of the Series as Pakistan won a home tri-series against Sri Lanka and England. He scored 149 runs at a strike rate of 119.20 and took nine wickets at an economy rate of 5.13. He made 59 and took six for 40 against England, and hit 61 off 31 balls in the final against Sri Lanka in Lahore.
How the winners are picked
Nominees are chosen on performances from the first to the last day of the month. The winners are decided by an independent ICC Voting Academy of former players, broadcasters and journalists, which has 90 per cent of the vote, and by fans registered on the ICC website, who have the other 10 per cent. Amol Karhadkar and Samreen Razzaqui represent India on the academy.
The winners will be announced in the second week of November. Follow more cricket news on Indian Sports News.
