Samarkand, Uzbekistan, September 25: The Commonwealth Chess Association (CCA) has signed Paramount Chess, a brand of NS Craft India, as its equipment partner for chess development across Commonwealth nations.
Paramount Chess will provide chess equipment worth $15,000 a year for the next two years, a total of $30,000 in equipment support.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Samarkand on the sidelines of the 46th Chess Olympiad by Nikhil Dhir, owner of Paramount Chess, and G. Luxman Wijesuriya, General Secretary of the CCA.
Equipment for development programmes
The CCA will use the equipment for its development work, including programmes, tournaments and other activities in its member nations. The aim is to encourage wider participation and support players, coaches, organisers and chess communities.
CCA Chairman Bharat Singh Chauhan welcomed the deal. “We are pleased to welcome Paramount Chess as an equipment partner of the Commonwealth Chess Association. Access to appropriate chess equipment is an important part of developing the game, particularly for grassroots programmes, schools, academies and chess initiatives in different Commonwealth nations,” he said.
“This partnership will enable the Association to provide meaningful support to chess development activities on a sustained basis.”
Chauhan added: “The annual equipment support of $15000 for the next two years will help us strengthen our development initiatives and extend assistance to chess programmes where equipment is required. We appreciate the commitment of Paramount Chess and NS Craft India towards supporting the growth of chess.”
Paramount Chess makes and supplies chess equipment. Alongside organising and supporting championships, the CCA has been building partnerships to support the game at different levels in its member countries.
