Samarkand, September 23: The Commonwealth Chess Association (CCA) has signed a partnership with Chessveda, a digital chess platform, to run online tournaments and other chess events across Commonwealth nations.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 46th Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, by CCA chairman Bharat Singh Chauhan and Chessveda chairman Nandan Jha. Presidents of Commonwealth chess federations, grandmasters and international masters attended the signing.

The two bodies plan to organise online tournaments, online Chess Olympiads and other events, and to look at hybrid formats alongside the CCA’s over-the-board events.

What the two sides said

“We are delighted to formalise this partnership with Chessveda and welcome them as an official partner for online chess,” Chauhan said. “Digital platforms are opening new avenues for participation in chess, and this collaboration will enable us to provide more opportunities for players and chess communities across Commonwealth nations to participate and compete.”

Jha said: “We envision organising online Chess Olympiads and other major championships at a global level. Our aim is to bring the global potential of chess and online chess to a wider audience while providing grassroots talent with opportunities to compete on global platforms and stages.”

Chessveda’s platform covers online play, learning and training, tournaments, coaching and chess news.
