Bengaluru, 17 October 2026: India and West Indies shared the five-match T20I series 2-2 after rain ended the decider on Saturday with India on 118 for five after 7.4 overs.
The no-result meant West Indies’ wait for a first bilateral series win in India since 2002 goes on. It also meant India, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup champions, could not finish the series in front.
Nine overs a side
A long rain delay pushed the toss to 9pm local time. West Indies captain Shai Hope won it and chose to field in a match cut to nine overs per side.
West Indies were unchanged. India brought in Shivam Dube and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who was playing his first international match in almost four years.
India go hard
Keemo Paul beat Sanju Samson with the first ball, but a single, a no-ball and five wides down the leg side soon got India moving. Abhishek Sharma hit a six off the fourth ball and then fell next ball, caught by Shamar Joseph in the inner ring while trying to hit towards cow corner.
Ishan Kishan kept up the attack, taking 24 runs off the second over. He made 30 off 10 balls before Joseph removed him in the third over, with India close to 50.
Samson, who had seen little of the strike, then hit a string of boundaries before Shamar Springer bowled him at the start of the fifth over to leave India 66 for three.
Late burst from Dhir
Tight bowling slowed India for a while, putting pressure on captain Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma. As the drizzle returned, Iyer hit two boundaries off Gudakesh Motie and survived a dropped chance by Sherfane Rutherford, but Paul had him caught at the start of the next over.
Naman Dhir then hit three sixes in six balls to lift India to 118 for five before the rain returned for good. Paul (2/34) and Springer (2/17) were the best of the West Indies bowlers.
Hope leads the way
Hope was named Player of the Series. He was the leading run-scorer on either side with 261 runs in four innings at an average of 130.5. Paul was the top wicket-taker with eight wickets from three games.
West Indies showed good application and power-hitting through the series to hold the world champions to a 2-2 draw.
What’s next
India now head to New Zealand for an all-format tour that starts on 22 October with a T20I series, followed by five ODIs and two Tests. West Indies travel to Bangladesh for a two-match ICC World Test Championship series.
