Kohli, Jadhav, Pandya, Dhawan, Dhoni: Heroes and zeroes from India vs England 1st ODI

virat kohli 111What a chase and what an innings played by Captain Virat Kohli and local hero Kedar Jhadav. India won the game with three wickets with 11 balls to spare.  Here the hits and flops from India’s perspective in yesterday’s India Vs England’s 1st One Day International at MCA Stadium in Pune.

Hits -

1. Captain Virat Kohli – Amazing inning under pressure. India were struggling for 63 for 4. With MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh back in the pavilion, he and Kedar Jhadav shared a much needed partnership of 200 runs for the 5th wicket and brought the Indian innings right on the track. His 122 runs ball from 105 balls was the reason for India’s incredible recovery that he won the game for his side. He is called master of chasing and he showed us why. India have chased down 350 plus total and Virat Kohli has hundreds in all of them. From his 27 hundreds, Virat Kohli has 15 hundreds while chasing and has now joined Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar in maximum centuries in successful chases.

2. Kedar Jhadav – A local hero who guided his team to the victory. He provided a good support to his Captain when the team needed the most. His knock of 120 runs from just 76 balls not only gave India the win, it also earned him a man-of-the-match award in front of his family on his home ground. Expressions of his parents said it all. They were the proudest parents their son who made the nation proud.

3. Hardik Pandya – The all rounder contribution can’t be ruled out. He was the most economical bowler for India yesterday. While other bowlers went for plenty, Hardik Pandya’s spell of 9 overs 46 runs for 2 wickets was the most economical one. While batting his contribution of 40 ensured India’s famous win. His valuable 40 came after the departure of Virat Kohli, Kedar Jhadav and Ravindra Jadeja. India has found a fast bowling all rounder after they tried and tested Irfan Pathan.

The Flops –

1.  Shikar Dhawan – Yet another failure after his comeback. When India wanted him to score big and provide a good start, he just scored 1 run and got out to David Willey. Should India try out him again in the 2nd ODI in Cuttack?  Many Indian fans don’t understand why Dhawan is still playing after giving him so many chances. Should India go for Ajinkya Rahane in place of Dhawan? Or India should give a chance Karun Nair after his triple hundred in the last and final test. Karun Nair and Lokesh Rahul are good pair of batsmen at the top order. They rescued India in that final test match when Virat Kohli and Chesteshwar Pujara got out early.

2.  Jasprit Bumrah – A lot was expected from this youngster. But he failed to impress. He was the go to bowler for India but he leaked runs in the end in plenty. He was the expensive bowler for India in yesterday’s match.

3.  MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh – A lot was expected from this duo in yesterday’s match. But they failed to impress their fans. Yuvraj Singh looked good till he lasted for his 15 runs. But the careless shot of Ben Stokes delivery cost him his wicket. All fans wanted to see vintage Dhoni yesterday in that run chase. But he made everyone feel sorry when he out for just 6 runs.
