P V Sindhu receives Arjuna Award from Sports Minister

pvsindhuNew Delhi: P V Sindhu's good run continues both on and off the field as she continues to receive awards and accolades after having a brilliant year. Rising shuttler P V Sindhu was given the prestigious Arjuna Award by Sports Minister Jitendra Singh on Tuesday.

Earlier, Sindhu's name was already declared in the list of sportpersons to be awarded the Arjuna Award but she could not receive the award from President Pranab Mukhejee at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on August 31 as she was busy playing in the final of the Indian Badminton league.

Sports Minister of India, Jitendra Singh on Tuesday did the honours as she presented the shuttler with a statuette, citation and a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh during the governing body meeting of Sports Authority of India.

Sindhu's bronze medal at the World Championships last month was the first by an Indian women and only second after Prakash Padukone to achieve such a feat. Sindhu's victories over the defending champion Yihan Wang and Asian Games gold medallist Shixian Wang has helped her to break into top 10 rankings.

This was not the end as Sindhu continued to show her class by winning her maiden Grand Prix Gold title when she bagged the women's singles trophy in the USD 120,000 Malaysia Open badminton in Kuala Lumpur in May.

P V Sindhi has also won the Asian Youth under-19 Championship last year and widely regarded as the giant killer by many.
