Townsville: India Under-19s defeated Papua New Guinea Under-19s by 107 runs to reach the quarterfinals of the Under-19 World Cup. India will now face Pakistan in their quarterfinal match. The star for India was Ravikant Singh who took 5-21.
India won the toss and elected to bat first. The Indian team once again got off to a horrible start and was four down before reaching hundred. Opener Prashant Chopra looked was the only man in the top order to get past the 50 mark. After he got out on 58, Vijay Zol took the matters in his own hand and played an important innings of 72, he got some good support from Smit Patel (30). Indian team was not able to play their complete quota of 50 overs and was bowled out for a score of 204 in the 46th over.
Papua New Guinea Under-19s also got off to a bad start as they lost half their side for a score around 50. Indians never let the opponent get back into the game and a superb spell of bowling from Ravikant Singh ensured that India reach the quarterfinals easily. He was awarded the man of the match award for his five wicket haul.
