Dubai, September 17: Tavengwa Mukuhlani, the chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket, has been appointed ICC deputy chair through to November 2027, becoming the first Zimbabwean to hold the position.
Mukuhlani succeeds Imran Khwaja in the role. He already serves on the ICC’s finance and commercial affairs committee and its nominations committee, and chairs its HR and remuneration committee.
The appointment comes as Zimbabwe prepares to co-host the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 alongside South Africa and Namibia, the first men’s World Cup to be held in Africa in 24 years.
Shah welcomes the appointment
ICC chairman Jay Shah said Mukuhlani’s experience in cricket administration and his commitment to development would be valuable to the board. “With cricket expanding globally and returning to the Olympic Games, strong leadership will be vital,” Shah said.
Mukuhlani said he was “deeply honoured by the confidence placed in me”. He added: “Cricket is entering an exciting period, particularly with its return to the Olympic Games and continued global expansion.”
