Grandmaster P. Harikrishna was born on May 10, 1986 in Andhra Pradesh. Harikrishna shot into national prominence in 1996, when he became the first Indian to win the under-10 world chess championship in Menorca, Spain. After moving up higher in the ELO Rating, he was called upon to become the member of the Indian National Team to take part at the Chess Olympiad in Istanbul.

In 2004, P.Harikrishna became the second Indian, after Viswanathan Anand, to be crowned Junior World Chess Champion. Throughout his illustrious career, the unassuming Harikrishna has earned comparison with veteran chess player Anand and replaced him as the youngest Indian Grandmaster in 2001. Harikrishna holds the record of being the youngest Indian Super Grandmaster. After Anand, Harikrishna is only the second Indian to be placed in the highest echelons of world chess.
