Noida, September 25: Shashank Sachin Gadre won a sudden-death playoff to take the Category A title and the combined Category A and B championship at the 26th NCR Cup Junior and Amateur Golf Tournament at Jaypee Greens Wish Town on Friday.
Gadre, the overnight leader, shot a level-par 71 in the final round to finish on seven-under 206 (67-68-71). Sakshity Pureandre caught him with a three-under 68 (35-33) and also finished on 206 (72-66-68), but Gadre held his nerve in the playoff.
The three-day event was run by the Delhi Golf Society (DGS) and carried World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points. Arshvant Srivastava took solo third on five-under 208 after a closing 68.
Pandey wins Category B by ten
Chaitanya Pandey led Category B from start to finish. He closed with a two-under 69 for a four-under total of 209, which also put him fourth on the combined leaderboard.
Ayan Khan also shot 69 on the last day but finished ten strokes back on 219.
Gauri Sharma takes girls’ title
Gauri Sharma posted a final-round 74 to win the Category A and combined girls’ titles on six-over 219.
Category B winner Dalisha Chetry matched her tournament-best 72 to finish second on the combined board at 221. Aahana Kashyap was third combined, and second in Category A, on 222.
Madan wins amateur section by 14 shots
Ritik Madan led the gentlemen amateur section all the way. He signed off with a 78 for an eight-over 221 and won by 14 shots from Kushagra Gaur (235). Ishaan Sawhney was third on 240.
Anoop Singh won the ladies amateur title, with Ravinder Kaur as runner-up.
Taanush Kumar wins Category D by 12
The sub-junior categories were played over 36 holes. Taanush Kumar followed his opening 65 with a three-under 68 to finish on nine-under 133 and win Category D boys by 12 strokes from Shivraj Pratap Singh (145). Mahira Sharma won Category D girls.
Avviraaj closed with a 74 to take Category C boys on 148, one ahead of Drona Singh Dhull. Aaliyah Kalra led Category C girls from start to finish and won on 150 after a final-round 78, with Aadya Kaushal second.
In Category E, played over nine holes a day, Lakshit Deswal came from behind with a seven-under 29 to win the boys’ event on ten-under 62. Siddhik Chaturvedi and Zowra Veer Sikand were tied second on 66. Manasvi Rathor carded a level-par 35 to win the girls’ title on 67, five clear of Abbakka Rawat Chettri (72).
DGS was set up in 2003 under the Indian Golf Union (IGU). Its WAGR-sanctioned events, such as the NCR Cup, let junior golfers in India earn world ranking points without travelling abroad.
