Indian top seeds Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Reddy N Sikki lost to Malaysia’s Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai 13-21, 21-18, 21-16 in the mixed doubles final of Scottish Open in Glasgow on Sunday.
The World No. 22 pair of Pranaav and Sikki, who had won the Brazil Grand Prix in September, had progressed into the USD 55,000 Scottish Open final after edging past Denmark duo of Mathias Christiansen and Sara Thygesen 21-18 23-21 in a 46-minute clash.
Pranaav and Sikki, who had an easy run till the semifinals, had to strive hard in the second game of the semifinal match. In the opening game, Pranaav and Sikki had surged to a 5-3 slender lead and kept extending their distance to lead 17-12. However, the Danish pair clawed back at 18-18 before the Indian duo managed to reel off the next three points.
In the second game, Pranaav and Sikki once again opened up a massive 7-1 lead only to see it evaporate as Mathias and Sara drew parity at 14-14 and then turned the tables holding a 16-14 lead. But the Indian pair ensured there are no hiccups as they showed better nerves to emerge victories.
