Dublin: The Football Association of Ireland has made it official that their midfielder Keith Fahey will not feature in the upcoming UEFA EURO 2012 due to an injury and Paul Green is all set to replace in the final squad. Fahey would miss out on the EURO 2012 action due to a groin injury, with Green on his way to the finals as his replacement.
There was a cloud of suspicion hanging over Fahey’s selection in the team but Giovanni Trapattoni named him in the 23 probables list. But Fahey whose injury only worsened and the FAI confirmed that he would miss the Europe’s premier tournament after their 1-0 friendly win against Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Dublin Arena.
"During the warm-ups at today's match, Keith Fahey felt something not quite right and he was scanned following the match. The FAI medical team received the results of the scan which showed unfortunately that his groin strain was persisting. The results were discussed with the player and he agreed that he would not recover fully in time for UEFA EURO 2012. As a result he is departing from the squad and Paul Green is being called in,” as FAI was quoted by UEFA.com
