Chandigarh’s budding cricket star Jaskaran Singh Sohi off to England

Mumbai: One of Chandigarh cricket's young star, Jaskaran Singh Sohi has been selected for a potentially educational and intense playing stint at Alsager Cricket County team in England, UK for six weeks. He is expected to play at least 10 games through the season apart from going through the rigmarole of an English season.

 

Jaskaran first rose to prominence as he guided DAV College, Chandigarh to a win at the national qualifiers of Red Bull Campus Cricket India. And then he was the batsman of the tournament, as India beat five other nations to win the crown of the crowns at the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals.

 

A member of the England Cricket Board, Cheshire County Cricket League Premier Division, Alsager Cricket Club is a vibrant community sports club that promotes and encourages potential, new playing members.

 

I am glad to get this opportunity through Red Bull Campus Cricket; and I am hoping to make the most of it. I’m definitely looking forward to an intensive training session, that will help me better my game,” said Jaskaran. He takes inspiration from Indian cricketer, Yuvraj Singh. “He (Yuvraj Singh) is a fighter, and I love his attitude on the field. He lifts the spirit of the entire team with his batting, bowling and fielding,” says Jaskaran.

 

Post a rigorous screening of approximately 720 budding cricketers from top 48 Indian Colleges, this D.A.V College student from Chandigarh has certainly proved his mettle. Jaskaran dreams of playing for the Indian national team someday and going by the way he is batting, it looks like Indian cricket has a new star in the making!
