New Delhi: The Tiger Paw Sports Film Festival is proud to announce its line-up for its inaugural festival. The competitive section with seven categories will run from August 27-29 at the Alliance Francaise auditorium. The nominated films and documentaries in the feature, short fiction and short documentary have been selected with the United States leading the way in the feature documentary section.
Emmy award winning director Dan Noyes and Robin Hauser Reynolds story, Running for Jim, of a track coach chronicles the story of Jim Tracy, the deeply dedicated, brutally honest and tough-love coach of the San Francisco University High School cross-country team.
Yet another Emmy award winner Mele Mason brings to life the extraordinary story, Nawang Gombu: Heart of a Tiger, of the nephew of Tenzing Norgay, Nawang Gombu who was the youngest Sherpa climber on the 1953 Everest expedition carrying supplies above 25000 feet. He went on to become the first man in the world to summit Mt. Everest twice. He stood on the highest point on the planet with Jim Whittaker on the American expedition in 1963 and again on the first successful Indian expedition in 1965. But ‘firsts’ are only a small part of what makes this man’s story extraordinary.
The other nominated documentaries are: No Apologies, Karims: A Sporting Dynasty; Undefeated: The Roger Brown story; Dream Racer; From the Streets to the Field and Ladies Turn.
For cricket fans, Karims: a Sporting Dynasty features the story of the Karim family where Aasif – Yusuf and Nargis Karim’s second son- was a Tennis Champion at the Coast and winning regularly in Nairobi and eventually played Davis Cup for Kenya. Aasif also represented Kenya in Cricket for 23 years, playing 4 Associate Trophies and 3 World Cups, including his famous performance against the World Champions – Australia in the 2003 World Cup.
In the short documentary section, India has two led by Boxing Babylon: The story of Olympic Deva and Leslie Claudius: The story of a hockey legend. The others in the fray are – Dragon Noi from Australia and Free Base en Riglos from Spain.
In the short fiction section, Na Pogled from Slovenia is among the mix with The Equestrian (UK), Parkour 997 (France) andUmpire State of Mind (USA).
The Nominated films in the other categories will be decided by August 11th.
