New Delhi: Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal started her Hong Kong campaign on a winning note as she defeated Indonesia’s Aprilla Yuswandari to move into the second round of the event on Wednesday.
The world number three Saina beat the Indonesian 22-20, 21-8 in straight games victory at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Kowloon.
The London Olympics bronze medallists took some time getting into the groove. And once she found her touch, she hardly made any mistake.
After a close first game, she came back from behind in the second to dominate the proceeding.
Pranav Chopra and Siki Reddy N also made it to the second round with a 21-19 21-15 victory over Phillip Chew and Jamie Subandhi of the USA in the mixed doubles competition.
Meanwhile, Tarun Kona and Ashwini Ponnappa crashed out of the event after they lost to top seed Chinese pair of Chen XU and Jin MA 21-15 21-16 in the mixed doubles competition.
