Participants will compete against each other in 4 main categories – Men’s Professional Bodybuilding, Women’s Professional Figure, Men’s Professional 212 and Women’s Professional Bikini.
Sheru Aangrish who started the championship along with his brother Hemant Aangrish said, “This is the first professional body building event in India. We started this event with a thought that every Indian should know how important is to be fit. Through this competition we want to create interest among common people to get into body building.”
He also emphasised on the fact that India as a country never takes body building seriously. “We are a nation that rarely gives any importance to fitness. Countries like US and UK knows the importance of it and that reflects in the medals that they win in Olympics. We Indians lack the stamina and the strength and through this championship we want to change that,” he said.
His elder brother and co-founder Hemant said, “We want to bring a revolution in the country. First we hosted this championship in Mumbai and now it will happen in Delhi. We will look to keep changing the venue so that we can bring awareness to as many people as possible.”
Sheru Aangrish said, “Sheru Classic is going to be the next big thing in Asia with over 30-40 major sports competitions being held under its banner by 2022. I have initiated the process with Bodybuilding because I have closely seen the hardships that fitness and Bodybuilding enthusiasts have to face in our country in order to compete at the international platform. My aim is to create awareness about Professional Bodybuilding in India so that it gets recognized as a major competitive sport. The success of last year’s show has already pushed me a step ahead towards my goal”.
Sheru Classic Delhi 2012 will also witness a Powerlifting Competition which is being organized in association with the Indian Powerlifting Federation. In the Powerlifting Competition, men and women champions from 33 states across the country will compete against each other in four categories – Lightweight Men, Lightweight Women, Open Men and Open Women.
