Dubai, November 4: Oman have reached the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2027 despite losing to the United Arab Emirates by 42 runs in the last match of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 at the ICC Academy ground on Wednesday.

Oman lost their last seven matches and finished level with Namibia on 33 points, but went through on a better net run rate. They join champions the USA, Scotland and the Netherlands as the four teams to go straight from League 2 to the 10-team Global Qualifier.

UAE win the final match

Put in to bat, the UAE made 226 for eight. Captain Rahul Chopra and Adeeb Usmani scored 47 each and Basil Hameed added 43. Oman left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmed took three for 42.

Oman slipped to 28 for three, with Muhammad Rohid taking two early wickets, and finished on 184 for nine. Mujibur Ali top-scored with 65.

The road to the 2027 World Cup

The other four League 2 sides, Namibia, Canada, Nepal and the UAE, move to the eight-team Qualifier Playoff. Jersey and Kuwait have qualified for it from Challenge League A, and Italy and Uganda from Challenge League B. Four places at the Global Qualifier are available in the Playoff.

The Global Qualifier will decide the last four places at the World Cup. The winner goes straight into the group stage, while the teams finishing second, third and fourth go into the newly formed Super Series.

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia from October 2 to November 21, with 14 teams and 57 matches at 12 venues. The ticket ballot is open until 23:59 CAT on November 21, and more than 120 million applications had been received by November 1.
