Haryana defeat Uttarakhand in junior hockey

Hyderabad: Haryana defeated Uttarakhand 9-0 to reach the quarterfinals of the inaugural junior National hockey (under-20) championship, organised by the Hyderabad Hockey Association under the aegis of the Indian Hockey Federation, here on Saturday.

The star performer for Haryana was striker Gurpreet Singh, who scored four goals.

In another match, Uttar Pradesh defeated Jammu & Kashmir 4-0 to progress.

The results: Haryana 9 (Gurpreet Singh 4, Neeraj Kumar 2, Harpreet Singh, Balwinder Singh, Vipin Nandal) bt Uttarakhand 0; UP 4 (Imran Khan 2, Farogh Alvi, Sunil Yadav) bt J & K 0.

Maharashtra 4 (Vijay Patil 2, Abhimanyu Bhosale, Pramod Kale) drew with Madhya Pradesh 4 (Shubank Yadav 2, Tarun Kumar, Vinod Yadav).

Chandigarh 2 (Baljot Singh, Gurjinder Singh) drew with Bhopal 2 (Affan Yousuf, Prakash Singh Rawat); Kerala 4 (S. Shijin 2, M.M. Ali, Akhil Antony) bt Manipur 2 (K.H. Dhananjoy Singh 2).
