Players lack civic sense, says PU

Chandigarh: An alleged lack of civic sense in sportspersons is what bars Panjab University (PU) from giving them basic facilities like mattresses and quilts in the winter in the sports hostels of the campus.

Following The Tribune’s report highlighting PU’s apathy to visiting softball team, the PU authorities have justified not giving mattresses to players, as they feared them to be left dirty by them.

In what is bound to irk hundreds of sportspersons and college authorities, PU dean student welfare AS Ahluwalia on a telephonic conversation from Lucknow said, “The sports department has told me that players participating in the inter-college tournaments leave mattresses and quilts dirty and that is why they were not given the bedding. No security was charged but we can start providing them bedding by charging security.”
