Players become a victim of officials’ negligence

Chandigarh: Kho-kho, kabaddi and volleyball players, who were scheduled to participate in the Women National Games in Karnataka, had to face a harrowing time when they were forced to return from the Delhi Railway Station yesterday.

The games are to begin from December 8.

The players were called back by officials of the sports department after they failed to get seats on the Karnataka-bound train.

However, the officials were seen passing the buck to the Sports Ministry. As per provided information, the department had asked for 37 seats, but the ministry could provide only 27 seats.

“We were assured by the ministry that the reservation would be done,” said an official of the sports department.

A press release issued by the sports department stated that the selection trials for the above said events were held on November 3 at the sports complex in Sector 42, but still the officials relied on the ministry to provide reservation at the eleventh hour.

The department received the ‘confirmation’ in the afternoon on December 3, despite the fact that it had requested the ministry to send it by December 1.
