Mumbai: Ishaan Advani of Bombay Gymkhana upset seeded Rohan Paranjpe of CCI to storm into the boys' under-19 quarterfinals, in the 68th CCI-Western India Open Squash Tournament at the Cricket Club of India on Thursday.
Unseeded Advani set the tone for an exciting day of squash as he overcame the favourite in a five-set thriller after leading 2-0 following tight opening sets. After resting on the cushion, Advani lived dangerously as he relaxed his grip.
Seeded 5 to 8, Paranjpe, son of former table tennis star Jatin Paranjpe , snatched the opportunity to force the decider with a brilliant comeback.
The match could have gone either way, until Advani sealed it over extra points at 11-8, 14-12, 5-11, 8-11, 12-10 in a pulsating finish.
