Canara Bank in pre-quarters

Kolkata: Canara Bank played a remarkable game against Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy (Bhopal) to win vie the tie-breaker 5-3 and move into the pre-quarterfinals of the Coal India 116th all-India Beighton Cup hockey tournament at the SAI ground here on Sunday.

 

Jindal Sports Promotion Board defeated local campaigner Eastern Railway Sports Association 6-4 also via the tie-breaker after the two teams were locked 1-1 at the end of schedule time. The victory lifted Jindal Sports to third round.

 

The results: Jindal Sports 6 (Xavier Ekke, Anil Ekke, Xavier Ekka, Paulous Ekka, Raju Minz and Alok Barla) bt ERSA 4 (Manoj Kujur, Amit Prakash, Fardeen Khan and Hardeep Singh).

 

Canara Bank 5 (Bidappa, K.M. Sommanna, Naveen Patil, P. Shanmugam and M.P. Kaverappa) bt MP Hockey Academy 3 (Deepak Singh, Sarfaraz Khan and Shailendra Bunda).
