Vighney and Monika win

Hyderabad: P. Vighney Reddy of St. Paul's Table Tennis Academy and M. Monika of Gujarati Seva Mandal won the men's and women's singles titles respectively in the Ananta Narayana Reddy & Rameshwaramma memorial AP State-ranking table tennis tournament at AWASA Indoor Hall here on Sunday.

Vighney defeated Somnath Ghosh (SCR) 12-10, 12-10, 16-14, 11-7 in the men's final, while Monika scored a 11-7, 7-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-6 win over Ch. Praneetha of Vijayawada in the women's final.

Vighney completed a ‘double', winning the youth boys' title also.

Hockey selections

Hyderabad Hockey Association will organise selection trials on October 25, at Begumpet Police Stadium, from 6. 00 am to pick the State under-19 team for the South Zone championship from November 6 to 10, informed C. R. Bheem Singh of HHA. The interested players should be born on or after January 1, 1992.

Yogender, Raju shine

A century by K. Yogender Krishna (90) and a good spell by G. S. Raju (six for 16) helped Raju's CC score a thumping 221-run win over Manikumar XI in the B-Division league cricket championship here.

Army Red wins trophy

Army Red defeated South Central Railway 25-17, 25-19, 25-20 in the final of the third Rahul Gandhi invitation prize money volleyball tournament at Amberpet Indoor Stadium here.

For the winners, Prakash, Rahul and Arun combined well, while for the losers, Ashok, Sudarshan Kumar and Anil put up a good show.

Regional Sports Control Board settled for third place, getting the better of Army Green 34-32, 23-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-12.
