Air India organises Chess-O-Mania, participants get chance of playing with leading chess champions

chess icon 26New Delhi: To promote sporting culture, Air India today organized an exciting Chess–O-Mania tournament for chess players in the capital. This tournament provided a unique platform to participants, where they competed with renowned Chess champions like Arjuna Awardee Woman Grandmaster S. Vijaylakshmi, Grandmaster Tejas Bakre and Arjuna Awardee Woman Grandmaster Tania Sachdev. Chess- O- Manis is a step forward towards felicitating interaction of players with India’s top grandmasters.

The participants were from various corporate, including Air India. A total of 102 entries were received to play a qualifying rapid tournament, out of which the top 30 players were selected and they got a chance to play with Grandmasters. Top performers and promising players were shortlisted by the grandmasters, top 3 players were awarded with complimentary AI domestic tickets by Air India CMD Ashwani Lohani.

On the occasion Arjuna Awardee Woman Grandmaster Tania Sachdev said “ Opportunities in our country for Chess is growing and this game has the ability to enhance an individual’s abilities in many aspects which can help them in life in many ways. Such an initiatives are not very common where Chess enthusiasts can get an opportunity to play with professionals, I would like to thank Air India to give me this opportunity.”
