Senior Boys

Mamta Modern Sr. Sec School vs Ryan International School (Udhyog Kunj)

As far as one-sided finals go, this was an excellent specimen of one. Mamta Modern School caught the game by the scruff of the neck and never let go of it, ending up with a 8-0 victory over Ryan International School to take the final.

While the performance of the whole team was head and shoulders ahead of their opponents, the star of the match was Avinash Yadav, who provided an encore of his semi-final act by claiming another hattrick and winning the match ball once again. The most prolific goal scorer of the tournament, Yadav, also bagged the golden boot. The golden glove was won my Mamta Modern School goalkeeper, Milind Singh while Delhi Public School’s Kaustubh Jain received the golden ball.

With their coordination and speed in the field, Mamta Modern School maintained possession of the ball for most part of the game. They also deployed fine finishing skills in converting most of the chances. Their offensive half was solidly backed by the defenders, leaving very little room for Ryan International School’s boys to make any inroads even when they got hold of the ball.
The fact that all their goals were equally spread throughout the duration of the game is a testament of the fact that they never took their foot off the gas, maintaining constant pressure on Ryan International School even after they had a sizeable lead.

Scoreline:

Mamta Modern Sr. Sec. School – 8 (Avinash Yadav 3’, 19’, 75’, Nishant Gusai 15’, Akhil Rawat 39’, 66’, Kartikeya Mayer 70’, 76’) beat Ryan International School – 0.

College Boys

Zakir Husain Delhi College vs St. Stephens College

After a hard-fought 90 minutes, Zakir Husain Delhi College emerged victorious by 2-0 over St. Stephens College to be crowned the city champions in the college boys category. After a series of lop-sided high-scoring affairs, the last match of the day was a nail-biter, both depicting and befitting the high quality of the teams involved. There were a number of fine challenges, skilful passes and brilliant stops on view. The first 45 minutes of the game were bereft of a goal but not of entertainment.
Dishant Negi came close to getting a breakthrough for Zakir Husain College midway through the first half. He kicked the ball into the net but it was ruled off-side.

When the goal did come, it was a one worth waiting for. Zakir Husain College’s Yogesh Kumar ran from a distance, manoeuvring his way through St. Stephens College defence and passed the ball to Dishant Negi who was waiting there like a hungry cheetah ready to pounce on his prey. It was a perfect goal from start to finish. The timing of the goal made it even more enthralling, as it came during the two extra minutes added to the first-half.

After they got their first goal, Zakir Hussain College shut shop on their opponents, blocking every inch of their half. St. Stephens College made numerous attempts to breach through in search of that equaliser but to no avail.

The leaders, however, continued to vie for an insurance goal and succeeded in the 80th minute. Like their first goal, the second too came through a partnership, this time between Sikandar Khan and Ashutosh Thapliyal, who shot one right into the net.
Scoreline:

Zakir Husain Delhi College – 2 (Dishant Negi 45+2’, Ashutosh Thapliyal 80’) beat St. Stephens College –0.
