RFYS football tournament: DPS and Zakir Husain Delhi College make Junior and College boys finals

New Delhi: The first day of Delhi semi-finals of RFYS football tournament begun with Delhi Public School and Zakir Husain Delhi College (Udhyog Kunj) sealing spots in the Junior boys and College boys categories respectively. On a chilly morning at the Thyagraj Stadium the two victorious teams overcame their opponents comprehensively to make the finals.

Junior boys

Delhi Public School vs Ryan International School (Udhyog Kunj)

Delhi Public School cakewalked their way into the city finals of Junior Boys category with a 2-0 win over Ryan International School (Udhyog Kunj). Agam Gupta, the boy behind both goals, was awarded with the match ball.
DPS took a lead at the stroke of half-time with Agam Gupta scoring the first goal of the match. He returned to emulate the feat at the fag end of the second half to seal the game for his team.

DPS were versatile on the field, in that they complemented their impeccable attacking strategy with a resolute defence. They maintained a 3-3 formation throughout the match while also keeping a vigil watch on the midfield. Their tight defence left little room for Ryan International School lads to manoeuvre the ball. It was team-work on display at its best.
Vaibhav Sharma came within striking distance of making it 3-0 for DPS in the end when a header from him fell excruciatingly short of the target.

College boys

Zakir Husain Delhi College vs Amity University

In a show of dominance, Zakir Husain Delhi College romped into the Delhi College boys with a 3-1 victory over Amity University. Yogesh Kumar, who scored the first goal for Zakir Husain Delhi College, was awarded with the match ball.

Zakir Husain Delhi College took an early lead, courtesy of a fine goal by Yogesh Kumar. They continued to maintain a tight stranglehold over Amity University in the field, and came close to a second one various times.

It came in the 40th minute when Dishant Negi affected a clean finish, taking advantage of slight sloppiness in the Amity University defence.

A fightback from Amity University seemed imminent as they continued to soldier on against Zakir Husain Delhi College’s midfield strength. Their efforts reaped reward in the 58th minute when Sachin Rwat converted a corner kick into the team’s maiden goal. The Amity boys gave all they had in search for the equalising second goal. But while their desperation grew with every passing minute, Zakir Husain Delhi College never lost sight of the goalpost. As if to reassert their dominance over their opponents with one final flourish, substitute Ashish Shaw scored them another one with seconds to go for the final whistle, making their victory margin 3-1.
