FYS football tournament: Delhi teams vie for a place in the Nationals

New Delhi: The Thyagraj Stadium in Delhi will host the city semi-finals of RFYS football tournament for all categories on November 22 and 23. With the winners in each category getting a chance to compete in the nationals in Mumbai, the stakes are high and energy would be in abundance.

Junior Boys

First semi-final

Delhi Public School vs Ryan International School (Udhyog Kunj)

The first semi-final of junior boys will see two of the most consistent teams in the category lock horns. Both Delhi Public School and Ryan International School have reached the semis unbeaten.

In terms of sheer prolificacy, however, Ryan International School holds an edge with 26 goals in seven matches, as compared to Delhi Public School’s 16 in six games.

Second semi-final

Mira Model School vs Tagore International School

The second semi-final clash in the junior boys category will be one of the favourites versus the underdogs. Mira Model School, with six wins in seven matches so far in the tournament, will compete against Tagore International School, who have yet to taste defeat.

Tagore International School’s 25 goals in six matches tell of their excellent attack and finishing skills. Mira Model School defenders will have their work cut out while their forwards will have to keep a keen eye to overcome the Tagore International School defenders.

Senior Boys

First semi-finl

Ryan International Udhyog Kunj, Ghaziabad vs Delhi Public School

After the junior boys, the senior boys of Ryan International School and Delhi Public School will be up against each other in the first semi-final of this category.

There is not much to separate these two teams in terms of form or consistency. While DPS has won all six matches leading up to the semi-finals, RIS have conceded one of their six matches. DPS have registered 11 goals so far in the tournament while RIS’s tally is 19.

Second semi-final

Mamta Model Sr. Sec School vs Salwan Public School

The boys of Mamta Model Sr. Sec School have shown their penchant for playing attacking football right through the tournament. In five matches they have plundered as many as 34 goals, crushing each of their opponents one by one. Although Salwan Public School’s goal tally is not as high as their opponents’, they have managed to win all six games en route to the semis.

College Boys

First semi-final

Zakir Hussain College vs Amity University

Both teams have entered the semi-finals pretty much head to head, winning all their respective matches. Even on the average goals per match the teams are perched on equal branches, making this contest a mouth-watering contest.

Sharda University vs St. Stephen’s College

This will be another clash between two equals, with both teams qualifying for the semi-finals unbeaten. While Sharda University have 30 goals in their five matches, St. Stephen’s College have 28.
