Chandigarh: Mahilpur Football Academy bagged the third position in the ongoing 13th Administrator’s Challenge Cup Football Tournament being played at Chandigarh.
In the match for the third place played at Sports Complex, Sector-42. Mahilpur Football Academy defeated Bangaluru FC 3-0. Both the teams adopted cautious approach right from the word go. However, both came up with couple of good moves after the 10th minute of the play.
Banglaruru lads started the game with short passes where as Mahilpur lads played in their tradition style -- long high passes. Mahilpur lads proved to be better in the physical build and ultimately turned the table in their favour.
In the 18th minute, Mahipur lads opened the account when Jagpreet Singh scored off a cross which he got from the right flank. This header had no answer from the Bangaluru FC goalie. After scoring first goal, Mahilpur lads exerted more pressure and scored the second goal in the 33rd minute of the play. Umesh scored the second goal for Mahilpur team.
The winners were leading by 2-0 at half time. After the break, on one side Bangaluru lads were trying to step up the tempo of the game, while on the other hand Mahilpur lads were slowing down the game by keeping the possession of the ball. At several occasions, they went up and brought the ball back in order to kill the time.
In the 61st minute of play, Mahilpur medio Prince took the ball from the defender Gurjit Kumar and after dribbling past Ved Denial of Bengaluru gave a penetrative pass to the right winger Tejinder Sing who sent a superb cross inside the Bangaluru FC penalty area, where alert Sarbjot made no mistake and scored third goal for Mahilpur with a superb side volley.
By bagging third place Mahilpur team got richer by Rs. 75,000 as prize money.
