Pune: The Audi Quattro Cup has clearly emerged as the cream of corporate golf events in the world. The Indian leg which is in its 7th edition is all set to tee off with Audi Pune hosting the lung opener at the exotic Oxford Golf and Country Club here on Saturday. The coveted event which will visit 12 other cities, will see the participation of over 1500 golfers, thus making it a nation-wide tournament.
The Audi Quattro Cup tournament series, established in 1991, has become one of the most celebrated amateur golf tournaments in the world bringing together over 85000 golfers from 54 countries.
Played on a unique “GreensomeStableford” format, where a team consists of two golfers drawn randomly, the top team from each city will qualify for the India final. The winning team from the Audi India tournament will then qualify to participate in the world finals of Audi quattro Cup.
Apart from the winning team, an additional team will be picked by a random draw from each of the 13 legs. The team with the highest score will be a part of the national final.
“Audi has been committed to the sport of golf for almost two decades. The sport which stands for precision and technique truly embodies Audi's philosophy of ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’. The Audi quattro Cup is ranked amongst the biggest and most popular amateur golf tournaments worldwide. The tournament which enters its 7th season in India has emerged as not just a popular sporting event but also as an ideal opportunity to intensify business relationships and establish new contacts.” said Mr. Joe King, Head, Audi India.
India's No.1 lady professional golfer, Sharmila Nicollet, who has been voted as one of the top-10 most glamorous female golfers on the European Tour will add an extra charm to the prestigious event. Sharmila who recently joined an elite family of Audi owners is the brand ambassador of the Indian leg of the Audi quattro Cup 2014 and will be displaying her skills while imparting some tips to the participants during the event.
Apart from the main prizes, the various skills prizes promise to keep every participant enthused. In fact the overall winner of the “Longest Drive” will be treated to a two-day Audi experience on the weekend with a chauffeur-driven Audi A6.
The Oxford Golf and Country Club is primed to host the mega event. A friendly format, top of the line hospitality, great prizes and some wonderful weather promise to make an incredible concoction which no player can afford to miss.
