Lucknow: With the beginning of the 4th Dr. K.L.Garg Memorial International Rating Chess Championship the players racked their brain in the entire game period here on the opening day at KD Singh Babu Stadium lucknow.

The inauguration of the organized championships was facilitated by chief guest of the opening ceremony Ashok Siddharth (MLC), UP chess Sports Association, Vice President Dr. Neeraj Bora, UP chess Sports Association, General Secretary A.K Raizada and Championship organiser’s officials were also presented on the occasion.

In the first round, 249th seed Ashu Verma of Lucknow caused a big upset, defeating his city mate 118th seed Rachit Goyal.

In the some other matches, 257th seed Vipul Agarwal (UP) upset 126th seed Satwik Gupta (Lko). DS Negi (Uttrakhand) beat Lokesh Jaiswal (UP), Pradip Tiwari (Delhi) beat Ayushi Jaiswal (UP).

On the other table, Nitin (CHG) beat Madhav Nath Khanna (LKO), Vantika Agrawal (DEL) beat Prem Singh Mehta (LKO), Loukrakpam Raju Mangang (DEL) beat Patel Dhairya.
