New Delhi: Delhi Amateur Wushu Association on Saturday commenced its prestigious 12th Delhi State Wushu Championship at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium. The three-day long championship (closing on 27 November 2012) was inaugurated by Shri. Jalaj Shrivastva (IAS), Chairperson, NDMC and the function was presided over by Shri Anindo Majumdar,IAS, Principal Secretary, Education, Government of NCT of Delhi.
Vidhushi Chaturvedi, Director education NDMC and Dinesh Mishra, Chairman, Technical Committee, Wushu association of India. graced the occasion as the Special Guest of the event. The opening ceremony held today was started with an enthralling cultural programme presented by the children of various schools from Delhi, followed by breath-taking Wushu demonstrations by International Wushu players.
The tournament will witness over 600 Wushu players representing 27 teams from various clubs and departments of Delhi including CRPF, ITBP, Air Force, STC Delhi and Delhi Wushu Academy .The Delhi Wushu State Championship was started in the year 2001 and gained momentum and popularity under the able guidance of Dr. Prabhat Kumar (IAS), President, Delhi Amateur Wushu Association.
Congratulating the team, Jalaj Shrivastva (IAS), Chairperson, NDMC said, “It is an honour for me to be a part of the 10th Delhi State Wushu Championship and I am glad to see how Delhi Wushu Association is playing a pivotal role in promoting the sport in India and he gave assurance to promoting Wushu sports in Delhi
Shri Anindo Majumdar,IAS, Principal Secretary, Education, Government of NCT of Delhi appreciated and encouraged the efforts of dr Prabhat Kumar and Delhi Amateur Wushu Association and he pomised that Delhi Government will giving support to Wushu as priority sports.
Dr Prabhat Kumar President Delhi Amateur Wushu Association welcomes all players and Coaches for their participation and gave thank to NDMC and Delhi Government for promotion of Wushu Sports In Delhi. He said without the support of NDMC and Delhi Government we can't reach this stage.
Delhi Amateur Wushu Association felicitated Santosh Kumar with Rs 25,000/- for winning Bronze medal in 12th World Wushu Championship held at Malaysia 28th October to 6th November 2013.
