Hindustan Football Club lifts 7th Dharamvir Walia Memorial Football Tournament

Ambala: Hindustan Football Club lifted the 7th Dharamvir Walia Memorial Football Tournament after defeating United Club of Mahilpur, Punjab 4-2 in penalties at Ambala.

Tied 1-1 at the end of the extra time, HFC goalkeeper Amit Negi rose to the occasion and saved two spot kicks to give the Delhi side their first trophy of the season.

In the open play, HFC's foreign strike force, OO Sola gave his side the lead in the first half. A well taken corner kick was deflected off United's defence as the ball fell on the Nigerian's feet. Without any mistake, he tapped in the ball. Sola was also adjudged the Man of the Tournament.

In the 2nd half, United Club came back and equalised as both the team played pressing game, creating chances at both ends. Towards the end, Amit Negi came up with another superlative saved off a freekick, when he stretched full length to save a powerful shot, denying the home side a lead.

"Had Amit not saved the freekick, the results would have been different" said captain Puspender Kundu.

"It was a fantastic tournament and definitely the credit goes to the coach Surinder Kumar. He handled the team very well and that made us stood out from the rest," Kundu added.
