Chandigarh: AIFF Regional Academy will lock horn with Chandigarh Football Academy for the Administrator's Cup title clash to be played at Sector 17 Football Stadium on September 30.
In the first semi-final played at Sector 17 Football Stadium, AIFF Regional Academy stunned Mohun Bagan by the narrow margin of 2-1. Both the teams were equally balanced and exhibited skillful play. Both the teams played the game at fast pace right from the word go and missed a couple of golden chances in the initial minutes of the game .
In the 18th minute of play, AIFF lads framed a move from the left flank where their left winger Suman Sarkar sent a penetrative pass behind the Bagan’s defence line which was taken by speedy Rakesh Oram who took a powerful grounder which went out after striking the bar.
In the 38th minute of play, Mohun Bagan’s left winger Ch. Kenson Metai sent a long cross on the other side of the penalty area which was brilliantly converted by alert Amarandu Chakraborty by a superb side volley . Mohun Bagan lads were leading by 1-0 at the breather.
On the resumption of play after half time interval, AIFF lads came up in a whirl wind fashion and mounted pressure on the Mohun Bagan’s defence line. In the 54th minute of play AIFF got a corner kick which was taken by Suman Sarkar. who sent a loafted left footer in the penalty area of Mohun Bagan where alert Rakesh Oram of AIFF scored the equaliser by a superb header.
After scoring the equaliser AIFF lads increased the pace of the game. In the very next minute Suman Sarkar took a power full shoot at Bagan’s goal which was brilliantly saved by bagan’s custodian. It was again Rakesh Oram who scored the winning goal for AIFF in the dying minutes of the game.
In the second semi-final, defending champion Chandigarh Football Academy overpowered Mahilpur Football Academy by the score of 2-0. Chandigarh lads were in full cry today and played the game like professionals. They earned the plaudits of the huge crowd at Sector 17 Football Stadium.
In the 36th minute of play, CFA lads framed a move from the mid field when their medio Mohit gave a through pass to the right out Jatinder who sent a cross towards the penalty area of Mahilpur where Harsharn Khabra made no mistake in scoring the first goal for his team by nice low drive.
After scoring the first goal CFA lads took the full control of the proceedings of the game and frame a good move from the right flank. Mobashir sent a squire pass towards penalty spot of Mahilpur where Harsharn Khabra sent the ball in the goal from a close range. Gurchait Singh, Gursimrat singh, Mehtab Singh and Harpreet of Mahilpur and mohit and Vikram of CFA were cautioned and shown yellow card by the referee for their involvement in rough play.
For the third place Mohun Bagan will play against Mahilpur tomorrow at sector 17 football stadium at 2.00 p.m.
