Punjab go down fighting to MRF despite Sharad Lumba’s ton

Chandigarh: Despite Sharad Lumba's century, PCC lost to MRF by four wickets in the JP Atray Trophy here on Saturday.

After putting PCC to bat, MRF were soon rewarded with the wicket of opener Ravi Inder Singh who snicked a Ashiwin’s delivery to Sushil when the team’s total was 28. Then skipper Taruwar Kohli and Manan Vohra added 31 runs for the second wicket before Taruwar Kohli was caught by Sushil off Sunil Sam for 20.

Thereafter, Manan vohra and Sharad Lumba were involved in an enterprising third wicket partnership of 80 runs before Manan Vohra was snapped by Antiny off Anirudh for a well made 80 off 85 balls studded with 8 boundaries and two sixes with team’s total reading 147 for 3.
There was mild middle order collapse as Himanshu Chawla 02, Himanshu Satyawan 02, Gitansh Khera 05 got out reducing Punjab to 164 for 6 in 35 overs. Thereafter, Sharad Lumba in company of Rahul Sharma added 61 runs for the seventh wicket before Rahul Sharma was caught by Sushil off Sunil Sam for 29. PCC were finally bowled out for 277 in 50 overs. Sharad Lumba being the last man bowled by Sunil Sam for a sparkling century (107) off 99 balls, which included six boundaries and three sixes. Sunil Sam 4 for 61, Anirudh 3 for 38 were the main successful bowlers for MRF.


Chasing the target, MRF scored 278 for 8 in 48.2 overs to win the match by four wickets and garnered four points.
MRF innings thrived on a 50 runs partnership for the second wicket between S Anirudh 29 and Venu Gopal Rao 63 and another partnership of 86 runs for the 3rd wicket between Venu Gopal Rao and U.Sushil .

Thereafter, U.Sushil and Adithya V were involved in another fruitful partnership of 79 runs for the 4th wicket. Venu Gopal Rao hit a fluent 63 off 68 balls studded with seven boundareis and one six before being castled by Rajwinder Golu. U.Sushil made a run a ball 88 with six boundaries and one six before being bowled by Siddharth Kaul. Sandeep Sharma 2 for 71 was the most successful bowler for PCC. U. Sushil of MRF was declared man of the match.
