Chandigarh: Fending of a spirited challenge mounted by local lad Feroz Singh Garewal, Tapendra Ghai of the Delhi Golf Club (DGC), managed to stay two strokes clear of the field going into the final day of the USHA IGU PUNJAB JUNIORS GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP 2013, being played at the Chandigarh Golf Club.
Feroz carded a two under 70 on Day three, easily the best round of the tournament so far, to finish with a combined score of 224, two shots behind Tapendra, who carded a two over 74 on the day to end up with a score of 222. Mohan Sardar of the Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC), representing the East Zone, is lying third with a score of 227, five of the pace and still in the hunt.
Feroz Singh Garewal started the day at T6, six shots separating him from the overnight leader Tapendra. But four birdies on the day, combined with the fact that Tapendra dropped two shots today without any birdies to show, meant that Feroz made up four positions on the Leaderboard and narrowed the deficit with Tapendra to a mere two shots. What helped Tapendra to hold on to the lead today was the fact that he managed to hit par on most of the holes and did not drop more than two shots on the day.
It promises to be a cracker of a final day as both Tapendra and Feroz have been in great form this season, with Tapendra qualifying for the Nick Faldo series in China and Feroz lying third on the Indian Golf Union (IGU) Juniors Tour Order of Merit. Also in the mix is Pukhraj Singh Gill, currently lying fifth and seven shots of the pace. Pukhraj is placed fourth on the IGU Juinors Tour Order of Merit and is sure to give it his best to move as much up the Leaderboard as possible.
