New Delhi: After 12 days of highly competitive battles that involved more than 80 schools at three zones in Delhi NCR, eight best teams qualified for the quarterfinal stage in the 2nd edition of Airtel Rising Stars - Delhi Leg. The matches will take place from tomorrow onwards at the capital’s Ambedkar Stadium - one of India’s famous football venues.
Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj; Father Agnel School, Mayur Vihar; C.R.P.F. Public School, Rohini; Government School Sector 11, Rohini; G.D. Goenka Public School, Rohini; Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vasant Vihar; N.K. Bagrodia Public School, Dwarka and Apeejay School, Noida won all their spirited battles to reach the quarters. All school teams displayed amazing teamwork and put their best feet forward to enter the penultimate round of the leg.
Arjun, who scored a brilliant hat-trick against Modern School in a previous knock-out match, will spearhead the attack of Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj when they meet N.K. Bagrodia Public School, Dwarka tomorrow. Government School Sector 11, Rohini will be relying on their best player Mohd. Ansar, who scored two back-to-back goals against Pragati Public School and C.R.P.F. Public School in their match against Apeejay Public School, Noida.
G.D. Goenka Public School’s Vickram, who scored against V.S.P.K. International School, and Father Agnel School’s key player Brijesh, who scored a goal against Bloom Public School, will make sure that they convert most of their chances and keep the defenders busy. G.D. Goenka Public School is now preparing to meet Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vasant Vihar while Father Agnel School will play against C.R.P.F. School, Rohini in matches tomorrow.
Apeejay Public School’s Shekhar, whose second hat-trick today helped his team drub Ryan International School, Ghaziabad 6-0, will be the key playmaker against Government School Sector 11 in the quarterfinal. Shekhar, who also scored a hat-trick against Ryan International School, Noida in a previous knock-out match, scored steady goals in the 18th, 29th and 32nd minute. Bhomick scored the first goal in the 8th minute while Aditya converted a neat pass to score in the 15th minute. Nitish contributed the last goal for his team to take the tally to six.
In another match played at Ambedkar Stadium, Father Agnel School, Mayur Vihar defeated Army Public School, Noida by two goals to none. Brijesh scored the first goal followed by Meinghow’s goal in 40th minute to take the team home.
