Noida: The much awaited month long Annual Inter Institutional Sports Meet “Sangathan 2013” commenced at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida to promote the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie amongst the students of Amity Universities spread across India and abroad.
The inaugural ceremony started with lighting of the “Mashal” and subsequent, “Mashal Relay” to Amity Campus, Sector-44 and Amity Group of Institutions, Greater Noida.
Declaring “Sangathan 2013” open, Mr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh said that Sangathan is an important event in the calendar of Amity since it brings together all the Amitians and remind them of the vision and mission of the Respected Founder President, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan to create institutions par excellence. Mr. Chauhan said that gradually, “Sangathan” has acquired the proportion of a “Mini Olympics” wherein students display exemplary commitment, passion, hard work and agility, in an effort to become the leaders of tomorrow.
Delivering the welcome address and giving a brief Introduction of Sangathan 2013, Prof. (Dr.) Kalpana Sharma- Chairperson (Organising Committee), Sangathan 2013 narrated the humble beginning of Sangathan in 1999 to provide an avenue to students for channelizing their talent and energy. She shared that under “Sangathan 2013” students would compete in 21 Sports events and staff and faculty members could participate in 8 events along with few vintage games.
Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools motivated the participants of Sangathan 2013 and called upon them to play with honesty, zeal and healthy competitive spirit. “Winning is important but more important is participation”, she stressed.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ajit Chauhan- Vice Chairman, Directorate of Distance and Open Education remarked that Sangathan is just not a Sports event but it is a holistic event which aims at overall grooming of the students. Sports require physical as well as mental attributes to excel, similarly in life also, a potent combination of physical and mental attributes would aid a person to scale unfathomable heights.
Sharing her views, Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Acting Vice Chancellor, AUUP said that Sangathan engages the students physically as well as mentally. She apprised that all the national and international campuses of Amity have started “Sangathan” in their respective campuses which will culminate on October 24 which is observed as Founder’s Day in Amity.
The inauguration was followed by an Exhibition Football Match between Amity International Business School Vs Amity School of Physical Education and Sports Sciences.
Students from Amity School of Physical Education & Sports Sciences presented a multi hued fusion dance enthralling the audience.
