Former Delhi state football and table tennis player Swaraj Kumar Jolly passes away

New Delhi: Former Delhi state football and table tennis player and renowned sports personality - Swaraj Kumar Jolly passed away this morning at Apollo Hospital following a prolonged illness . He was 59 years old and is survived by his wife, a bachelor son and married daughter.

He started playing football since 1975 and was a prominent figure in the DSA league for a number of years from various clubs including his official Reserve Bank of India football team in DSA Institutional league for Chief Minister Cup.

He got associated with various football clubs of New Delhi and promoted players to play and perform.

He was the sports co-ordinator of Reserve Bank of India for many years and was the man behind the recruitment of numerous football players for the first time in Delhi branch of Reserve Bank of India. These recruitments were of National and State Level players that enabled the football team of RBI to win many tournaments. He was still working with RBI.

He was the current secretary of DTTA (Delhi Table Tennis Association)

For more than 20 years he was involved in promoting table tennis in Delhi and other parts of the country. He himself was state level player before joining the DTTA as an office bearer.

In veterans tournament he won many titles and championships. He groomed players of all age groups and simultaneously provided them the platform to perform at higher levels.

He was one of the main pillars of DTTA that organises regular table tennis tournaments in Delhi.

He was creamted this after-noon at Lodhi Road creamation ground. A large number of sports lovers, officials , Chairman -South Delhi Municipal Corporation Virender Kasana and his RBI collagues were present at his funeral. The All India Football Federation vice- president and Delhi Soccer Association (DSA ) president Subhash Chopra, MLA and managing committee members expressed their heart-felt condolences and described his demise is a great loss to the sports fraternity.
