Lucknow: As many as four teams from South Asia i.e Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal including hosts India, would be seen in action in the four-day 4th South Asia Women’s Handball Championship, beginning from March 14, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium in Lucknow.
Disclosing this to the newsmen today, UP Handball Association’s president Tribhuvan Ram informed that the third edition of the event was also held at Lucknow in 2008 in which hosts India finished winners. Spirited Bangladesh and Pakistan finished second and third, respectively, whereas Nepal stood fourth.
"We are committed for the successful conduct of the event as this has been an honour for UP Handball Association to conduct an international event for yet another year,” said T Ram.
Secretary, U.P Handball Association, Anandeshwar Panday, who was present on the occasion, said that all the four teams will play on league-cum,-knock-out basis. Hosts and defeding champions India will take on Nepal in the opening match on March 14 at 4.00 p.m.
The final will be played on March 17 at 4.00 p.m.But before that hard-line match will be played in the morning at 10.00 a.m. “Due to some their personal reason Bangladesh team is not participating in this championship,” said A. Panday.
“Eldeco group Chairman S.K Garg will give the Saheed Dr. K.L. Garg trophy to the two best players of the day with 5001/-Rs- 5001/- Rs as a prize money,” said A. Panday.
