Lucknow: With the beginning of the 2nd round of the 3rd Dr KL Garg Memorial Eldeco International Rating Chess Championship the players racked their brains in the entire game period attacking & defending every sophisticated move of their opponents here opening day at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium.

Top rating  Sharad Sharma from Uttar Pradesh playing white against Uttara Khand’s Saksham Rautela. Sharad defeated Saksham beautifully in the second round.

While the major upset of the round was of unrated UP’s Amit Shrivastava playing white against rated player Sonkalan Bharti from West Bangal. The game in an unusual opening, both the players racked their minds like anything but finally Amit beat Sankalan and added one point.   

In the other games of the opening day, Rajesh Kumar Sharma (UP) beat his state mate Amaan Ahmed. Bhola Nath Gupta (UP) beat eight top Madhya Pradesh’s Arnab Roy, Rajendra Kumar from Uttar Pradesh beat state mate Ashish Kumar Singh. Chandigarh’s Piyush Manju defeated UP’s Arjita, Sambasiva Rao from Andra Pradesh beat Akash Saxena from UP.

The inauguration of the organized championships was facilitated by chief guest of the opening ceremony MLA (SP), Shahdab Fatima and Guest of honour Eldeco Director’s, Anil Tiwari. Championship organisers officials and UP chess Association, General Secretary A.KRaizada were also presented on the occasion.
