Haryana: In the recently concluded North Zone Badminton Championships at Bhilwara Rajasthan from 31-08-12 to 02-09-12. Haryana won the Men's Championship by beating Chandigarh in the finals with a margin of 3-1. Before this Haryana beat Rajastan in the Quarter Finals with a margin of 3-0 and then in the Semi Final , Haryana beat Punjab with a margin of 3-1.
It is 2nd time in the history of badminton in Haryana that their men team won the North Zone badminton Championships.First time it was achieved 7 years back Udaipur Rajasthan..
Stars for Haryana were Akshit Mahajan, Neeraj Vashist, Saurav Kappor and Ravi Kant Singla. Akshit was playing the First Single for Haryana and won all his matches. First against Ankit Arora of Rajashtan in easy 2 games with a score of 21-11 and 21-14. Then in the semi final against Punjab, Akshit outplayed Abhinav Maota of Punjab in straight 2 games with a score of 21-18.21-08.In the finals against Chandigarh Akshit beat Pankaj Nathani of Chandigarh again in 2 games with a score of 21-11,21-14. 2nd Single for Haryana was played by Saurav Kapoor.
He won his matches against Rajasthan and Punjab by beating his opponents in the closely contested matches but lost in the finals to Oscar Bansal of Chandigarh. First Doubles of Haryana was played by Neeraj Vashisst and Ravi Kant Singla.
They won their matches against Rajasthan and Chandigarh but lost to Punjab in the semi final.
3rd Single for Haryana was played by Neeraj Vashist. He did not get chance to play against Rajasthan as Haryana wrapped up the match 3-0 ,by winning First 2 singles and doubles. But, played well to beat his opponent in the semifinal against Punjab in finals against Chandigarh.
Haryana were in the finals of all the 4 events i.e. Men , Boy's U-19,Women and Girl's U-19. But could won only 1 Event. Their women lost narrowly to Delhi with 1-2 with margin in the finals. In the finals first single was played by Ekta Kaila and she lost to Nidhi Tiwari of Delhi in 3 games. But combined well in doubles with Jyoti Rawat to beat Nidhi Tiwari and Shreha of Delhi in 3 games. Then Jyoti Nashier of Haryana lost narrowly to Sanskirti of Delhi in 3 games. First game she won easily and was leading in the 2nd game with a score of 15-10 but lost 19-21 from there. In 3rd game she was leading but lost 21-23.
