Kolkata: A fresh battle for honours will begin at the historic Royal Calcutta Golf when the Royal Juniors Open, the fourth leg of the Tata Steel IGU East Zone Junior/Sub-Junior Tour tees off here on Wednesday. The two-day event will see approximately 60 talented kids vying for honours in five age-group categories.
Gurkirat Singh who has already won two out of the three earlier events renews his duel with Sunit Chowrasia, the only other winner in the previous legs of the 9-leg east Zone series. While Gurkirat’s success and form makes him a firm favourite, he still has to overcome the challenge of Sunit who is equally talented and hungry for success. What is commendable is the maturity the young lads have shown in the opening three legs of the tournament, especially the way they have adopted to the different courses in a very short span of time.
The Royal Calcutta Golf Club which is considered to be the Mecca of Indian golf is a true championship course having hosted some of the biggest international and national events. The course promises to give these youngsters a chance to test their mettle in a competitive atmosphere. Each of the strategically laid out holes tests the golfers’ accuracy.
