Bangalore: Central Reseva Police Force High School, Delhi stormed into the final of the Mahindra Youth Football Challenge, drew their crucial final league encounter against Don Bosco High School, Mumbai 2-2 at the Bangalore Football Stadium, Bangalore, here on Monday.
In the final on Tuesday, the Delhi school will clash with, Pandua S.B.S. High School, Kolkata, who emerged the firm favorites by finishing the league stage with an all-win record after five matches. Their latest conquest was Mallapuram Special High School, Kerala with a 6-0 margin.
Don Bosco, Mumbai were also in the race for a berth in the final, but could not rise to the occasion, their final must-win league encounter against Central Reseva Police Force High School, Delhi ending in a 2-2 draw.
The Mahindra Youth Football Challenge is the Mahindra Group’s commitment to promote football at the grassroots level. The company has partnered with Scottish football giants, Celtic Football Club, who will take on the responsibility of training and developing young talent identified through the initiative.
Don Bosco, Mumbai started their last league encounter very positive note. Their star player Vikrant Belwalkar scored two goals in the 5th & 15th minute to take 2-0 lead in the match, but before half time Mukesh Kumar reduce the margin 1-2 in the 22nd minute. Half time Mumbai school was leading with 2-1.
In the second half, Don Bosco, Mumbai started very attacking game, but could not managed to score goal. CRPF Delhi also played very attractive move and they succeed in the 42nd minute, when Abhishek Yadav scored the equalized goal. After that Don Bosco, Mumbai got many chances to take the winning lead but their striker cant managed to goal the score, all the shots heating above goal post.
Kolkata, who had already made the final, played at a more relaxed pace against Mallapuram Special High School, Kerala yet possessed enough firepower for a 6-0 win.
After winning the five games, Pandua S.B.S. High School, Kolkata, leading with 15 points. Central Reseva Police Force High School, Delhi in second placed with 10 points, in that they won three matches, one loss and one draw. Don Bosco High School, Mumbai in the third place with eight points. After playing five matches, they won two, two draw and one loss.
