Mohali: Punjab Cricket Association, which had conducted open trials at various centers in the state to spot talented bowlers who had otherwise not come through the normal selection process have now firmed up the list of nine fast bowlers and seven spinners in the age group of 16-18 after a four day camp of the 23 shortlisted bowling aspirants.
According to Sushil Kapoor spokesperson PCA, the final selection process was overseen by MP Pandove, Honorary Secretary, PCA with inputs for fast bowlers given by Coaches Yoginder Puri, Sukhwinder Singh Tinku, R.P. Singh and for spinners the input was given by Bharti Vij and Davinder Arora. Daljit Singh, Director PCA Academy along with Pankaj Dharmani co-ordinated the whole process which included the height, speed check up for pace bowlers and ability to spin the ball for the spinners.
The 16 selected bowlers will be under the direct supervision of the PCA academy and shall be rotated in their various age group camps to be held for specific catgegory of bowlers. In the first instance four fast bowlers from this group will be attending the camp at Amritsar being conducted for the fast bowlers of the state.
The selected candidates from this category for the Amritsar Camp are Parampal Singh (Gurdaspur), Gaurav Singh (Chandigarh), Rishab Sharma (Mohali) and Harpreet Singh (Ludhiana). The remaining bowlers selected in the fast bowlers category are Sompal (Patiala) Kamaljit Singh (Bathinda) Ajay Kumar (Fatehgarh Sahib) Rakesh Kumar (Mohali) and Ashish Kehair (Amritsar).
In the spinners category Sukhjinder Singh, Bhupinder Singh (Amritsar) Davinder Singh, Anil (Chandigarh), Gurketan Singh (Mohali), Jatin Rana (Amritsar) and Jagdeep Singh (Ropar). All these players will be put through their paces all the year round by putting them in their various age group camps and if selected by their respective district cricket associations, they will be representing them in the various age groups.
