one stop repair shop for physically disabled atheletesNew Delhi: This is one stop at the Games Village international zone which is rendering their service free for a noble cause. No they aren’t a charitable organization, but a professional company based in Berlin (Germany) and is a leading global supplier of innovative products for people with limited mobility.

Though Otto Bock HealthCare’s vision is to excel as the global leader in maintaining and restoring human independence, they also carry out certain works as part of their CSR activities and providing technical service to Paralympic sports is one of them.

“We are here to serve the disabled athletes. We give them the technical support. We have the expertise to all kind of problems related to the disabled athletes. We are doing it for free as it is part of our CSR activities,” said Gurpreet Kaur, Mobility Solutions Specialist, Otto Bock, India.

“Our products and services provide quality mobility solutions for people with disabilities - raising the quality of life for millions of people around the world. We actively support the rehabilitation of disabled service-men. We also advise the Government of India and assist them in the educating the next generation of professionals and supporting the work of numerous NGO's and individual service providers,” said Gurpreet, adding that they have been part of the Paralypic Games as official technical service provider and have helped in the smooth organization of other big Games like the Beijing Olympics.

“Yes we were there too and I one of the team member from India. There the team was even bigger and we were highly appreciated for our work. Games like this also gives us the opportunity to talk to other experts and learn about alternatives, which allows us to make advancements and offer even better service when we are back to normal routine work,” she adding that they have been the official technical service provider of the International Paralympics Committee since over two decades.

Speaking about the kind and amount of work they were undertaking at the Village, Gurpreet said that they were here to provide assistance and relief to para athletes. We opened shop here on September 24 and have been regularly getting athletes. We have attended to around 35-40 athletes and their problems are mostly related to wheelchairs and prosthesis. We have been able to provide them satisfactory service,” she said, adding that they could do all sorts of repairing from fixing nuts and bolts in the wheelchair to giving technical support just to get their equipment up to a competitive level.

“Emotions are part of our daily work. We need to deal with people who need our assistance on priority basis, so we have to keep our patience and emotions intact,” added Gurpreet.
