Moqi (China), September 6: India’s junior women’s hockey team beat Malaysia 11-1 in their second Elite Pool match of the AHF Junior Asia Cup 2026 on Sunday, a result that keeps the defending champions unbeaten and on top of the standings.
Puja Sahoo opened the scoring in the very first minute with a penalty stroke, and India never let up from there. Purnima Yadav added a field goal in the 4th minute before doubling her tally with a penalty corner in the 17th. Binima Dhan struck in the 8th minute, Krishna Sharma in the 14th and Sukhveer Kaur in the 21st, all off penalty corners, as India raced into a big lead.
Geeta Yadav’s brace earns player of the match
Geeta Yadav scored twice, in the 28th and 53rd minutes, both off penalty corners, and was named player of the match. Sanika Chandrakant Mane also finished with a brace, converting field goals in the 43rd and 58th minutes. Puja Sahoo completed her own brace with a second penalty stroke in the 42nd minute.
Malaysia’s only goal came through Nur Mohd in the 38th minute, a brief interruption in an otherwise one-sided contest built on India’s mix of penalty corners, penalty strokes and open-play finishing.
India top the Elite Pool after two wins
The win follows India’s 4-1 victory over South Korea in their tournament opener and takes them to six points from two matches at the top of the Elite Pool. China and Japan are second and third with three points each from one win apiece, while South Korea and Malaysia are yet to open their account.
India, the two-time champions and defending title-holders, next play Japan on September 8 in what should be a far tougher contest for top spot in the pool.
