New international hockey stadium to be inaugurated in Raipur Aug 29

New Delhi: Hockey in the country prepares to get a boost with yet another International hockey stadium to be inaugurated at Raipur, Chhattisgarh on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the late Major Dhyanchand and National Sports Day on August 29. With a capacity of 4000 spectators, this is the second International hockey stadium with a blue Astroturf to be inaugurated in Chhattisgarh after the international hockey stadium in Rajnandgaon, which was inaugurated earlier this year.


The stadium will be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Dr. Raman Singh and Speaker of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, Hon’ble Gauri Shankar Agarwal. The two teams of 16 national players each, including players who were part of the Silver Medal winning Indian Men Hockey Team at the recently concluded XX Commonwealth Games 2014 will play an exhibition match on the occasion of the inauguration of this stadium.


Speaking on the occasion, Hockey India’s Secretary General, Dr. Narinder Batra said, “I am thankful to the Government of Chhattisgarh for building this second Hockey stadium in the state within a span of almost six months. These initiatives will go in a long way to develop hockey in Chhattisgarh”.


The Team “A” will be led by Sardar Singh and Team “B” will be led by Vickram Kanth. The teams will arrive at Raipur, Chhattisgarh on 28th August 2014.
