New Delhi: India's ace discus thrower Vikas Gowda won the silver medal in the IAAF Diamond League Series, Doha, today. The Indian star threw the discus to a distance of 63.23m, finishing behind Poland's Piotr Malachowski, who took the top spot with a throw of 66.72m.
Estonia’s Gerd Kanter took the bronze medal, with a best throw of 62.90 metres.
The Mysore-born Gowda won the 2010 Asian Games bronze and silver in the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games in the discus event. His personal best throw is 66.90 meters which is also the national record in discus throw, achieved in 2013.
India's star athlete Tintu Luka clocked 2:00:56 to finish sixth in the 800m event at IAAF Diamond League, Doha.
Kenya's Eunice Jepkoech Sum took the gold, clocking 1:59:33, while Chanelle Price of the US took the silver with a timing of 1:59:75 while Lenka Masna of Czechoslovakia clocked 2:00:20 to take the bronze medal.
The other two finishing ahead of Tintu were Janeth Jepkosge of Kenya (2:00:49) and Molly Beckwith-Ludlow of the US (2:00:55).
