IPL 7 - Kolkata Knight Riders inch closer to playoffs

Gautam Gambhir won the toss for KKR and decided to field first in a wicket which looked to be slow and assisting the spinners. Morne Morkel did the job for KKR as he struck early in his spell by dismissing C M Gautam which brought the in form Ambati Rayadu at the crease. Lendl Simmons looked good in the previous match but failed to make an impression against KKR as Shakib ul Hasan cleaned him up.

Mumbai Indians needed a captain’s knock from Rohit Sharma to give the innings some sort of momentum but in a pitch which was slower and lower for the batsmen, run scoring became increasingly difficult. Sharma managed to score a half-century which came off 45 balls and Mumbai at the end of 20 overs managed to score 141 runs which gave KKR more than just a chance to win the match.

KKR got off to a good start but lost Gambhir soon after the 50 runs opening stand and it was left to Uthapa to stay till the end and finish the match. Uthapa did not disappoint as he played a brilliant knock off 80 runs before getting dismissed and by then the match was well and truly over for Mumbai Indians.

KKR won the match by six wickets in 18.4 overs which gives them a very good chance of qualifying to the next stage of the tournament.
