Odisha beat Delhi 5-2 in the finals of the 4th Hockey India Sub- Junior Men National Championship (Division B)

New Delhi: In exciting clashes played on the final day of the 4th Hockey India Sub- Junior Men National Championship (Division B) at Vadodara, Gujarat, Hockey Gangpur-Odisha steals the show from Delhi with a 5-2 on board to register a splendid win in the finals. Sports Authority Of India books the 3dr spot as they defeated Gujarat by a huge 11-2.

In the finals between, Hockey Gangpur-Odisha and Delhi, the former stole the match away from Delhi by 5-2 and claims the first spot, leaving Delhi to settle as the runner-ups. The first half of the clash saw only one goal coming in from Hockey Gangpur-Odisha in the 13th minute as a field goal through Sanjay Xalxo and taking the lead by 1-0 by the end of the first half of the game.

The start of the second half saw Hockey Gangpur-Odisha’s Pratap Lakra slicing in a penalty corner in the 37th minute itself. Delhi opened its account as late as in the 44th minute of the game when Delhi’s Mohit Anand sneaked in a field goal and showed signs of a challenge and reduced the margin to 2-1. But was immediately replied by Hockey Gangpur-Odisha’s Sanjay Xalxo in the 45th minute and was followed by Anand Ekka in the 54th minute to mark a 4-1 on board. Delhi’s last goal came again from Mohit Anand in the 58th minute whereas, Hockey Gangpur-Odisha went on to further increase its lead in the 66th minute as their last goal, coming from Biraj Topno and registering a 5-2 win in the finals.

In the Hard Line match played between, Sports Authority Of India and Hockey Gujarat for the 3dr and 4th position, Sports Authority Of India, defeated Gujarat with a whooping 11-2 as Gujarat failed to stop the beating and settle for the 4th position in the championship. Sports Authority Of India opened the shower of goals from the 12th minute of the match as they went on to pounce one goal after the other till the 70th minute of the game itself.

Sports Authority Of India’s Sahil Gill and Rajkumar Pal contributed a total of six goals with three goals each to their credit out of the total eleven goals by the team. On the other hand , Gujarat managed to score a mere two goals, with the help of Virj Sisodiya in the 58th minute and Sarthak Parmar in the 67th minute. Gujarat’s repeated efforts to stop Sports Authority Of India from attacking, went in vain and lost the game by huge margin of 11-2 goals, settling for the 4th position in the tournament.
